Chronological listing of individual releases

The Music Today series (1965-75) was sponsored by the UK branch of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Peter Brinson, the Director of the Foundation, played a key role in initiating the series, Christopher Rye and his successor Anthony Wraight were directly responsible for administering it on the Foundation's behalf.

The first eight releases were on the EMI label (with the active support of Peter Andry, the then Manager of the International Artists Department). Associated with the series were a Schoenberg/Webern/Berg LP sponsored by EMI, and a Gerhard/Maxwell Davies LP for which funding was provided by the Serge Koussevitzky Foundation.

The EMI Music Today releases were subsequently re-issued on the Argo label, and integrated with five new releases. The new artwork drew on the work of major British painters. During the release period the Managing Director of Argo - a subsidiary of the Decca Record Company - was Harley Usill.

Label numbers of Argo re-pressings are given below in in parenthesis

The Dallapiccolla/Shaw LP was the last release in the Gulbenkian Foundation's Music Today series. In 1975-76 Drew was closely but not administratively involved with Deutsche Gramophon's 3-disc album of music by Kurt Weill, recorded by The London Sinfonietta under David Atherton immediately after their Berlin Festival concerts in September 1975. There then ensued a fifteen-year gap before the release of the first of the CDs Drew planned for Largo.
