Sir William Glock

Sir William Glock

(1908-2000)

Note: further information will be posted here.

William Glock, the distinguished musician, administrator, and teacher, was born in London on 3 May 1908 and died in Oxfordshire on 28 June 2000. The co-executors of his Will are Adrian Hatt (Hedges & Co, Wallingford), and David Drew.

Sir William GlockSir William bequeathed his music library, and his books on music, to the Royal Northern College of Music. His letters from musicians (including major collections from leading composers of his day and ours) were bequeathed to the British Library, together with a smaller collection of holographs. Most of these have now been transferred to the British Library.

As of January 2004, there is still some work to be done that relates directly to both bequests. With regard to those aspects of the legacy which are musically and historically important, but not reflected in the specific bequests, further developments will be reported here in due course.

Sir William's friend and contemporary, the musician and teacher Henry Boys, is currently the subject of separate research.
